Hebrew 11:6, Without faith, it is impossible to please God.
Whoever must come to God must believe that he exists.
We may be asking questions like, Who is God? What does it mean to please him? Why do I need faith?
Who is God?
Describing God is difficult. He described himself as the I am that I am.
Genesis 1, 26,27, God is the creator of the universe
James 1:17, He is the originator giver of every perfect gift
He is reliable, true, and faithful
Num 3:23, He is not a man and Jesus confirmed this in John 4:24
Daniel 2:21, He changes the times and seasons
What does it mean to please God?
If you can’t please people you can see, then it will be difficult to please God.
Pleasing someone means fulfilling their desires.
It is about patterning your life in the manner that the person is happy about.
But many people don’t know God the right way.
Knowing God is not only about knowing the things he can give you.
Many people blame the things that don’t work for them on God
Will you still serve God if he doesn’t give you all your desires?
Many people know God’s acts but not his character
His acts are what reveals his character.
Judges 2:7-10, some people only serve God for the good things that they expect from him.
Psalm 103:7 Go beyond knowing by only his goodness and his gifts to you.
Isaiah 55:8-9, We need to understand his ways, and to make us know him, he reveals himself to us.
Matthew 16:13-17, Until we get to that place with him where we know him based on his revelation of himself to us, we haven’t really gotten to know him yet.
How can we please God?
The only way we can begin to know God is by revelational knowledge, and God is revealed through his word.
We can know him more by getting deeper into his words.
Only in that way can you see and understand his character and know him.
When you know him, you will then know his will and if you don’t know him, you can’t know his will
We can’t know him without faith.
What is faith? According to Heb 11:1 “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.”
We can only know God through faith in him by getting deeper in HIS word. The word is capable of revealing the character/way and the acts of God to us.
